Tinpot Hut 2017 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

This starts out on the reductive side, with barnyard notes dominating, but it opens somewhat with time in glass, revealing plump cherries, spicy notes of cracked pepper and cloves, violets and damp earth. There's mealy oak on the underbelly. The bone-dry palate is on the thin, watery side, with angular acidity, astringent tannins and lacking some depth and fruit concentration. Christina Pickard
