Trapiche 1999 Malbec (Mendoza)

Wood and wood-derived flavors take center stage in the aptly named Oak Cask Malbec. On the nose, buttercream and oak aromas envelop black fruit. Flavors in the mouth are quite cedary, with tart mixed berries underneath. More cedar, fleshy red plum and a metallic tinge rounds out the finish. —D.M.
