Ulrich Langguth 2019 Madeleine vom Grauschiefer Reichensteiner (Mosel)

Reichensteiner is a rare white grape, rarely found in the Mosel (let alone anywhere else), produced by crossing Müller-Thurgau with another cross of Madeleine Angevine and Early Calabrese. This dry, medium-bodied bottling introduces has that classically smoky, slaty Mosel nose, but follows with a plush palate of rich yellow plum and grapefruit flavors. Rounder and sunnier in acidity than Riesling, it's an unusual wine with a delicately earthen undertone best enjoyed young. Anna Lee C. Iijima
