Upland Estates 2006 Old Vine Cabernet (Snipes Mountain)

These old vines were planted in 1973, producing a graceful wine that just hints at more subtle notes under the primary fruit and new oak. Mixed red berry, currant and cherry flavors run into stiff tannins; with airing it opens out, revealing the brambly wild-fruit flavors of old vines, and introducing mocha and caramel. Paul Gregutt
