Vignobles Mayard 2018 La Crau de Ma Mère Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)

Editors' Choice

Centenary vines of Grenache are augmented by 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre in this swooning black cherry and clove scented red. It shares the same vitality of black fruit flavors as the “tradition” or standard-label bottling from Mayard but with a richness of concentration and texture that's thrilling. Matured 18 months in foudre, its mulberry and preserved plum flavors are luscious, finishing with a dusting of char, basalt and delicate, lingering tannins. Ready now–2030. Anna Lee C. Iijima
