Villa Maria 2013 Nagkiriri The Gravels Cabernet Sauvignon (Hawke's Bay)

Cellar Selection

This is the first release of this premium red from the 2013 vintage, considered one of the best in Hawke's Bay. Even with some bottle age, this inky-hued wine is still massive. The nose is a rich combo of ripe blackberry and cassis, coffee, a mélange of herbs like thyme and bay leaf, cracked pepper and plenty of vanillin oak. The palate is tightly gripped by drying hulking tannins and the fruit is plush and extracted. Nevertheless, there is poise amidst all the power, just don't expect to touch it for awhile. Drink 2024–2039. Christina Pickard
