Villa Maria 2018 Single Vineyard Taylors Pass Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

This concentrated Pinot is on the richer, fuller end of the spectrum. It's reductive at first, with a dollop of funk that only partially fades with exposure to air, making room for the plush fruit, licorice, violet and oak spice. In the mouth, a heaviness to the fruit, oak and tannins leaves one wishing for some vibrancy and freshness, especially for this variety. With more time in bottle, the wine may reveal more of its charms. Drink 2022–2027. Christina Pickard
