Villa Monteleone 2001 Campo San Paolo (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

The protagonist here is oak, which is identified by overwhelming aromas of toast, vanilla, roasted almond, crème caramel, mesquite shavings and barbecue spice flavors. That's not to say that the fruit is totally gone: Wade through the wood and you'll find a healthy dose of fresh cherries at the back.
