Villa Poggio Salvi 2017 Brunello di Montalcino

Aromas of cedar, leather and star anise with the barest whiff of blue flower form the rather subdued nose. The lean, assertive palate lacks fruit richness, recalling prune, ground clove and bitter notes set against close-grained tannins that leave an astringent, drying finish. Drink sooner rather than later to capture the remaining fruit. Kerin O’Keefe
