92pointsViña Cobos 1999 Malbec (Mendoza)

Cellar Selection

Could this be Argentina's best wine right now? If you can find a bottle, give it a shot and decide for yourself. The aromas of mint, eucalyptus, cola and bitter chocolate are intense yet pure. The monstrous palate is overflowing with black cherry, plum and licorice, but it maintains a racy, balanced edge. The oak is heavy but not overwhelming. It's a wonderful Malbec, a leader in its class made by Paul Hobbs of California. Michael Schachner
