Viña el Principal 2014 Calicanto Red (Maipo Valley)

This opaque blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, with smaller amounts of Cab Franc, Syrah and Malbec. On the nose, the wine is ripe and smooth, with marzipan, latex, black olive and cassis aromas. A full, creamy palate is cut by tartaric acidity, while this tastes of savory plum and clove. More rich than racy, this is a deep and intense blend to drink through 2022. Michael Schachner
