Viña Tarapacá 2016 Gran Reserva Etiqueta Azul Red (Maipo Valley)

Distinct aromas of juniper and eucalyptus are all over the nose of this Cabernet blend that harks back to a different era for Chilean wine. A pinched, acidic palate is rock hard, while this tastes like it smells: raw and green. Is this a terrible wine? Absolutely not. But it is green to an extreme, likely a reflection of the rainy and problematic 2016 vintage. Michael Schachner
