Wairau River 2016 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

This wine starts off fairly muted, with soft notes of red cherry and other red berry fruits along with vanilla, cola and oak spice aromas. Things improve on the palate, where the acidity lifts the plush fruit to the fore, but the tannins feel like they're mainly oak derived and are a little blocky. Christina Pickard
