This vintage of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache comes from Ryan Walsh's and Freya Hohnen's family vineyards. Unafraid of funk, barnyard notes are out in full force here. There's also a fair bit of red and purple fruit, green herbs, menthol and a faint note of dried flowers. Tannins are chalky and tightly wound around juicy tangy fruit that drops off quickly, while a wild herb character flows through to the finish. This idiosyncratic red blend crys out for a lamb roast. What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
