Whaler 1999 Flagship Shiraz (Mendocino)

Dark and brooding-looking, with an inky-purple robe that's almost black. The aromas begin with earthy, truffle-and-mushroom notes and slowly open up to reveal plums and other dark stone fruits. Drinks thick, tannic and dry, with a core of plummy-berry fruit. This sturdy, big-boned wine will stand up to rich game, and also will age.
