Williams Selyem 1999 Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)

From this memorable vintage, a huge, tannic wine, dark almost to the point of blackness, and dense and rich in blackberry and pepper fruit. You could easily mistake it for Syrah, it's that full-bodied. Amazingly, the grapes were not picked until November. —S.H.
