86pointsWirra Wirra 2016 Church Block Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz-Merlot Red (McLaren Vale)

Wirra Wirra's most well-known wine ticks the boxes for full-bodied South Aussie red, but it feels a bit overworked, defined by the French and American oak it's aged in. Those menthol, pepper and dusting polish characters overlay cherry and plum fruit. The palate is plush and glossy, the ripe red and purple fruit wrapped in drying, muscular tannins and oak spice. Drink now–2026. Christina Pickard
