This is a rich, ripe wine, especially for the relatively cool 2017 vintage. A thicket of blackberry fruit combines with vanilla and oatmeal oak notes. Heat from the alcohol can be felt on the palate somewhat, and the oak feels a little clunky amid the generous dollops of fruit. The varietal character gets lost along the way. This is clearly a still-young wine meant for the cellar, and the hope is that it will find its way with time. Drink 2022–2028. Christina Pickard
