This Coonawarra Cab wears broad shoulder pads, but it still finds poise and polish plus regional and (cool) vintage character amid the brawn. Somewhat austere and dusty on the nose, the concentrated dark berry fruit, dried mint, ground pepper and oregano aromas peak through the cracks. On the palate, the plump, juicy fruit finds its way through the iron curtain of tannins, which are hulking but well structured for the long haul. Drink 2025–2040, at least. Christina Pickard
