Yalumba 2019 The Y Series Shiraz-Viognier (South Australia)

This is a ripe, somewhat confected, Shiraz-Viognier blend from the winery that put the latter variety on the Aussie map. Notes of berry and plum fruit swirl with cola, peppery spice and dried herbs. Acidity and tannins are pronounced if a little angry, although the freshness is welcome amid the muscles and richness of the fruit. A weeknight barbecue wine. Christina Pickard
