Yannick Alléno & Michel Chapoutier 2017 Couronne de Chabot (Saint-Joseph)

Fresh, cutting notes of black currants and violet candies are offset by crushed granite and herbaceous undergrowth in this full-bodied, peppery expression of Saint-Joseph. It's ripe and supple on the palate but quite zesty in acidity, finishing long on lingering, chalky tannins. Approaching peak now but should drink at optimum through 2027 and hold further. Anna Lee C.
