D.O.P. Cariñena was named by Wine Enthusiast as a region to watch in 2016 – and for good reason. The food-friendly wines from this historic region feature great value and intense flavors. Aside from Cariñena being the second-oldest recognized wine region in Spain after Rioja, it is also home to its own varietal and appellation and is renowned for having the most plantings of old vine Garnacha in the country. Despite being a relatively small region, its unique terroir, aging considerations, and range of producers contribute to the diversity of wine styles. Three co-ops produce the majority of Cariñena’s wines: Bodegas Paniza, Bodegas San Valero, and Grandes Vinos. Each has its own identity, lending range to the region’s styles resulting in an increase of market demand.
