Raised in Utah, Cartwright was a video-game designer whose path changed after a bottle of Pineau d’Aunis. He left the tech world and took a job at the San Francisco wine bar and retail hotspot Terroir Natural Wine Bar & Merchant, where he met Guilhaume Gerard. The two started their own company, Selection Massale, in 2010. Today, Cartwright’s focus is bringing wines to America from organic and biodynamic producers throughout France and Germany’s Swabia region, and he has become a leader in driving appreciation and availability of natural wines in the U.S.
