5 Unusual Vodkas
In honor of National Vodka Day on Oct. 4, Wine Enthusiast rounded up five must-buy bottlings that are unusual and delicious. These crisp, clear offerings are made with surprising ingredients—and while they have colorful stories, they won’t outshine the flavors of your favorite cocktail.
Marquis Vodka (Poland; Park Street Imports, Miami, FL)
Though you might expect a libertine-inspired vodka to be all vice, it has a virtuous side, too. Twenty percent of its gross revenue is donated to its charitable partners, Meals on Wheels, Worldwide Orphans Foundation, Footprints Foundation and the Trevor Project. The rye-based vodka appears dangerously inky-black in the bottle, but it’s clear in the glass, offering earthy, savory flavors and a zingy citrus-peel finish.

Drink it: Mixed with lime in a Gimlet.
Grey Goose VX (France; Bacardi, Coral Gables, FL)
Take note, luxury seekers: this vodka is blended with a 5% Cognac, made from grapes grown in Champagne. Introduced to the market in September and presented in a wide, hefty decanter bottle, this is definitely a sipping vodka, featuring delicate notes of peach and white chocolate.
abv: 40% Price: $75
Drink it: In a crystal snifter over a large block of ice.
Russian Diamond Vodka (Russia; DUN Beverage Partners, Sparta, NJ).
It’s a little gimmicky, but this silky, slightly sweet wheat-and-rye blended vodka claims to be filtered 57 times. That includes fabric filters, precious metals, Siberian pine tree needles, smokestone, rare onyx and rock crystal, “which share…the mighty energy of the planet.”
abv: 40% Price: $25
Drink it: In a Moscow Mule mixed with ginger beer.
Snow Leopard Vodka (Poland; Edrington Americas, New York, NY).
It’s made from spelt, and 15% of net profits are given to snow leopard conservation projects through the Snow Leopard Trust. We’ve spotted (pun intended) this soft, crisp vodka in the United Kingdom for years, and we’re glad that it’s finally made its way stateside.
abv: 40% Price: $35
Drink it: Tall and cool over ice, with grapefruit juice and a sprig of rosemary.
Ocean Vodka (USA; Hawaii Sea Spirits, Maui, HI).
Made with organic cane sugar and desalinated ocean water from 3,000 feet below the Pacific Ocean, this Hawaiian vodka may be the ultimate for tiki enthusiasts. The flavor is on the sweet side, with a vanilla-accented finish—apropos for a spirit made with cane sugar. A portion of proceeds benefit organizations working to conserve ocean resources. Just thinking about it puts us in the aloha spirit.
abv: 50% Price: $33
Drink it: In a Chi-Chi cocktail, with a splash of coconut cream and a hearty dose of pineapple juice.
