On Thursday, July 10, 250 sommeliers, restaurateurs and journalists gathered to celebrate Wine Enthusiast’s annual Top 100 Wine Restaurants list.
Guests made their way to the penthouse suite of the Standard East Village in time to catch the sun set over Manhattan. Beautiful weather and panoramic views added to the lively atmosphere, as representatives of the restaurants on the list (including Narcissa, housed on the ground floor of the Standard) traveled from around the country to be honored with Top 100 Wine Restaurant plaques.
Delicious wines from varied producers were offered, including LaLuca Prosecco, Vivanco 2013 Rioja Blanco, De Martino Estate 2013 Organic Sauvignon Blanc, Monteverro 2010 Chardonnay, Ruca Malen 2011 Reserva Malbec, Auspicion 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and Carpineto 2008 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva.
Bartenders also mixed specialty cocktails like the Primi (Cinzano, Dolin Blanc and LaLuca Prosecco) and the Grey Goose Le Melon Mule, a refreshing riff on the Moscow mule, made with Grey Goose Le Melon vodka and ginger beer.
Passed appetizers prepared by Narcissa included rotisserie-crisped beets with bulgar salad, apples and creamed horseradish and baked oysters, topped with truffle-bonito butter, cabbage and breadcrumbs.
“Each year, Wine Enthusiast editors scour the country seeking out the best and brightest in wine and culinary culture,” says Executive Editor Susan Kostrzewa. “This party is our way of celebrating the innovation and creativity that flourishes in the restaurant space.”
