This flavorful, Texas-themed cocktail was introduced at South by Southwest, the music, film and interactive festival that takes over Austin each March. The name of the drink is tongue-in-cheek: It’s not only a reference to Austin’s famed capitol building, but also a knowing tribute to many Texans’ belief that the state is its own republic.

Ingredients
1 ounce citrus-flavored vodka
1 ounce grapefruit juice
½ ounce Amontillado Sherry
½ ounce honey syrup (equal parts honey and hot water)
Grapefruit wedge, for garnish
Directions
In a cocktail shaker, combine all ingredients except garnish with ice. Shake well, and strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with grapefruit.
