If you didn't get your fill of July 4th celebrations, consider France's version of Independence Day another opportunity to imbibe. July 14 commemorates the storming of Bastille, a major revolt that kicked off the French Revolution in 1789. This Bastille Day offers a chance to enjoy simple, sophisticated cocktails using French liqueurs. One such spirit to try is Lillet, an aperitif from Bordeaux. This summer, it launched a collectable, limited-edition bottle (pictured). It features a tres chic Art Deco-inspired label designed by Brooklyn-based illustrator Autumn Whitehurst. Pernod, the anise-flavored liqueur, is another French favorite, known for giving an herbaceous boost to warm-weather tipples. Here are a few recipes to get your party started--no beret required.
