Wineries Choose New Importers

Kobrand New Importer of Rhone’s Chateau La Nerthe

Kobrand Wine & Spirits became the new U.S. importer for Chateau La Nerthe on Thursday. The wine from the Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOC of the Rhône was previously with Pasternak Wine & Spirits importers, now doing business as Esprit du Vin.

In addition to sales, Kobrand will be responsible for marketing the wines, which will be wrapped into the importer’s French wine portfolio alongside Maison Louis Jabot, Champagne Taittinger and Domaine Zind Humbrecht.

“Our two companies have similar values, and our wines have found their homes within Kobrand’s fine wine portfolio. Our dedicated teams, working hand in hand, will enable us to reach our full potential in the U.S.,” Chateau La Nerthe Commercial Director Christophe Bristiel said in a press statement.

Napa’s Grgich Hills Estate Changes Distributors in N.Y., Florida

Grgich Hills Estate has celebrated its 40th anniversary by getting new distributors in two of the nation’s largest wine markets. Grgich had been with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits in New York and Florida, but effective July 25, their award-winning Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons will be distributed by Wilson Daniels Wholesale in New York, and by Opici Family Distributing and Johnson Brothers in Florida.

“We made the decision to change distributors in these two markets to better align with our winery size and goals,” Violet Grgich, proprietor and vice president of operations, told Wine Enthusiast. “SGWS remains part of our distributor network in 11 markets throughout the U.S.”

The winery was founded after Vintners Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko “Mike” Grgich first earned world-wide attention when the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay he crafted won the 1975 “Judgment of Paris” competition, beating the best of French wine and putting a spotlight on Napa Valley.

LibDib Debuts Web Platform to be The Distributor for The Little Guys

Liberation Distribution (LibDib), which describes itself as the first alcohol distributor and technology company to offer a three-tier compliant Web-based platform, opened for business in New York on Thursday.

LibDib currently operates only in California and New York, but it covers all three segments of the booze business: beer, spirits and wine, it says on its website.

Cheryl Durcy, LibDib CEO and Founder

Founder and CEO Cheryl Durzy, who has been managing wholesale sales for her family’s 80,000-case winery, Clos LaChance, for more than 17 years, said her site could supply restaurants, bars and retailers with hundreds of boutique and craft products that previously were unavailable.

Restaurants, bars and retailers in California and New York can order from LibDib to receive products from producers of any size, whether down the street or across the globe. Licensed resellers can create an account and the Web-based platform automatically handles the invoicing, payment processing, collections and taxes, allowing both producers and retailers to do business in a more open, efficient and cost-effective way.
