Shiraz/Syrah

What is Shiraz/Syrah

Syrah/Shiraz is a red grape planted extensively in the south of France, Australia, South Africa, California and elsewhere. It produces a spicy, full and tannic wine that usually requires aging before it can be enjoyed. It is used as both a single-varietal wine (as found in the Northern Rhône) but also as a component in blends (as found in the Southern Rhône). It is sometimes blended with a small percentage of Viognier, especially in the Northern Rhône and Australia. You can use Wine Enthusiast’s online Buying Guide to find the top-rated Syrah/Shiraz among our extensive Syrah/Shiraz wine reviews and easy-to-use database.
